Film Capcitors

Plastic foil capacitors are usually divided into film capacitors and metal film capacitors.
Foil capacitors usually consist of two aluminium foil electrodes with plastic foils as dielectric. As a result, they are characterised by a higher insulation resistance and better capacitance stability compared to the metallised film capacitors.

Metallised film capacitors:
In contrast to film capacitors, which use aluminium foils as electrodes, the electrodes of metallised film capacitors consist of a thin metal layer (about 0.03 micrometres thick) deposited on the dielectric film in a vacuum. This makes the design very small and the self-healing of these types is a further advantage.

In this product category, too, it is always the application that ultimately decides on the use of the right variant.
